Ms. Ashley Taylor, Equine Therapist and Professional Barrel Racer came to Taylor County High School along with two special guests (Bo and Harley) and spent her day speaking with our students in Agriculture Technology in regards to proper horsemanship and care of horses. Ms. Taylor spoke about nutritional needs, care and handling of equines. Ms. Taylor touched on topics of Safety Approach and Mounting, Tack, the basic parts of a horse, hoof (horses feet) trimming and farriers (folks that trim livestock hooves), Colic, Massage Therapy for horses and Career opportunities in the Equine world. Mr. Jones, High School Agriculture Science Teacher and FFA Advisor, stated, "We can teach from textbooks and media, but the best lesson is exposure to the real thing". Mrs. Freund added, "Students enjoyed having Ms. Taylor come to our campus to share her knowledge of horses and her career field. Our students are thinking about their future careers and what field they would like to pursue, this gave them an excellent opportunity to ask questions about possible career choices in the Equine field.
